Dry Creek Valley Wines For Bastille Day

Dry Creek Valley Wines For Bastille Day

We know what you’re thinking. Didn’t we just celebrate Independence Day? It turns out we’re not the only country with a festive-filled celebration in the month of July… On July 14th, France also celebrates their own unique brand of independence known officially as La Fête Nationale, Bastille Day , or simply, Le Quatorze Juillet. Like its U.S. counterpart, this celebration also features patriotic fireworks, backyard feasts, hometown parades, along with some traditions that are uniquely à la française, such as fireman’s balls and costumed dances.

Lucky for us, we don’t have to be left out of all of the Le Quatorze Juillet fun, especially with so many of us with an ancestral connection to France, a notion especially prevelant in the world of wine and here in our own Dry Creek Valley. So before you dash off to that nearby Bastille Day celebration in your neck of the woods,  here are a few Boredeaux-style blends that you’ll want to take along and share with good company… family, friends, those you have now and maybe some new friends to be made. Oh and “‘Joyeux Le Quatorze Juillet!”

Estate 1856 Wines
Wine: 2011 Cabernet Bordeaux Blend
Description: The 2011 Cabernet Bordeaux Blend captures the essence of four Cabernet clones (two American and two French) and is composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and 12% Petit Verdot. This wine features plush aromas of a deep blackberry essence mix with hints of smoky oak and rhubarb tart. A silken texture reveals layers of flavors that contribute to the complexity of the wine. Dark berries, cherry, pomegranate, and mocha mingle with subtle pepper and just a touch of mineral and eucalyptus. Supple tannins and gentle threads of oak integrate seamlessly to create a solid structure. This Cabernet would best complement a main course of flavorful red meat, surrounded by a flavorful sauce like a pepper-crusted steak with Worcestershire-glazed portobello mushrooms. Delicious and approachable now, this Bordeaux varietal blend will continue to evolve and reveal its depth and beauty for years to come! http://www.estate1856.com/

2011 RP Cabernet Franc Tech Sheet - 2011RPCabFrancTechSheet

Mauritson Family Winery
Wine: 2010 Buck Pasture Wine
Description: The 2010 Buck Pasture is a spectacular blend that perfectly integrates the “thunder and lightning” of the Bordeaux world. The traditional Cabernet flavors of cassis, black cherry, cola and tobacco are complimented by the high toned red fruit of Merlot. The Petite Verdot brings a darker, brooding component to the wine, insuring that it will cellar beautifully. The flavor profile runs the spectrum from dark fruit to earthy notes and everything in between. The dark and herbal character of the Petit Verdot is on display in the mid palate and again in its harmonious finish. The acidity is perfectly integrated throughout but is most notable in the long finish. The tannins are such that they will age gracefully for the next 8-10 years. www.mauritsonwines.com
Pedroncelli 2011 3 V Cab

Pedroncelli Winery
Wine: 2011 Three Vineyards Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Description: Estate fruit harvested from the northern reaches of Dry Creek Valley, this Cabernet Sauvignon has exceptional character having grown on the vineyard sites situated on the valley bench where the vines receive the right amount of sun and cooling fog which develops optimal flavors in the grapes. Blending in Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Petite Verdot adds depth and the integrated flavors show optimum richness and balance. Beautiful, delicate aromas of currant, lavender and cocoa highlight our Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is framed by bright acidity, in just the right amount to showcase the fruit, and is from a lighter vintage showing medium tannins. The flavors feature red plum with caramel and licorice highlights followed by a lasting finish. Enjoy upon release or cellar up to five more years. http://store.pedroncelli.com
